Our Fence Painting & Staining Process
Fence work is all about preparation and timing. We start by confirming the fence condition, wood type, and the right product for the look you want, then we schedule around weather and drying time to protect the finish. From washing and sanding to careful masking and clean edges, we focus on even coverage, proper penetration, and a tidy site from start to finish.
Review & Recommend
We assess the fence condition, previous coatings, sun exposure, and moisture levels, then recommend paint or stain based on durability and appearance.
Protection & setup
We protect landscaping, patios, and adjacent surfaces, and set up for safe, controlled application with minimal mess.
Cleaning & prep
Pressure washing as needed, mildew treatment where required, scraping loose coating, sanding rough areas, and addressing resin or tannin bleed with the right primers.
Repair & fasten
Make small repairs, set protruding nails or screws, and spot-fill small gaps where appropriate.
Application
Brush, roll, or spray and back-brush depending on the fence style and product, ensuring consistent coverage on boards, posts, rails, gates, and lattice.
Final check & cleanup
We inspect for missed edges, drips, and lap marks, touch up as needed, then remove masking and leave the area clean.

FAQs
Should I paint or stain my fence?
Stain soaks into the wood and is a great option for a natural look and easier maintenance. Paint provides a fully opaque colour and can look great, but it requires excellent prep and can peel if the substrate or old coating is failing. We will recommend the best option after we see the fence.
How long does fence staining or painting last?
It depends on sun exposure, wood condition, and product choice. South and west-facing fences wear faster. Proper prep and the right coating system make the biggest difference in lifespan.
Do you pressure wash first?
Often, yes. Clean wood helps stain penetrate and helps coatings bond. We also allow proper dry time before applying product.
Can you stain a fence that was previously painted or solid stained?
Usually not with a semi-transparent stain. Once a fence has an opaque coating, you generally need a compatible solid stain or paint system. We can confirm after a quick assessment.
What about new fences?
New pressure-treated wood may need time to dry before staining. We can advise on timing and recommend products that work well once the moisture content is suitable.
Do you also do gates, pergolas, or deck railings?
Yes. We offer deck painting and staining service as well, and can include gates, lattice, pergolas, posts, and railing systems as part of the same project.
